Rising Number of STD Infections in Philadelphia a Big Concern
Health Department Officials in Philadelphia are concerned over recent reports that indicate an increase in the number of STD infections being reported. While the growth may not seem to be alarming to some, any escalation in the number of recorded cases is always coupled with a rise in unreported transmissions.
“Whereas a leading concern used to be a lack of readily accessible STD testing, that is no longer the case with the ever increasing number of ways that men and women can obtain STD testing in Philadelphia. Both the county and local health departments have tried to make cost-effective testing accessible to people of all income levels, and private testing organizations have also been a good source for confidential STD testing services.”
“There seems to be a presupposition that if you aren’t displaying any symptoms, then you aren’t infected.” said one community Philadelphia official. “Nonetheless, any physician will advise you that most STDs display little to no symptoms, even though the risk of spreading is just the same.” The only way to curtail this rapid growth is for all at risk people to receive regular STD testing for all major infections.”
“If you believe you might be at risk, or simply just do not know, the right step is to call your county health department or search online for STD testing services in order to identify a local medical laboratory that can evaluate your level of risk.”
